Tešanjka 2 Bridge

Innovative and Economically Viable Design Over an Archaeological Site and the M4 Expressway

Completed project

The Tešanjka 2 Bridge, with a total length of 250 meters and spans reaching up to 40 meters, is designed on the Putnikovo brdo – Medakovo motorway section crossing the Usora River. To safeguard an underlying archaeological site, the incremental launching method was selected as the optimal construction technology, effectively eliminating any work below the superstructure outside the main pier zones. Despite the bridge’s relatively short length, construction was executed using two independent casting stations with two sets of formwork and launching equipment. The post-tensioned concrete box girder superstructure proved to be a highly efficient structural choice, keeping the total prestressing steel consumption at an economical rate that does not exceed 25kg/m2.
